Line Manager: Education Junior Officer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Education Assistant supports the day-to-day implementation of education activities in field locations, ensuring that learning centers and supported schools operate smoothly and that children receive quality education services. The role involves close collaboration with facilitators, school personnel, and community members to monitor attendance, ensure child protection, and maintain an engaging and safe learning environment. The assistant is also responsible for collecting data, documenting activities, and supporting outreach and follow-up with learners and caregivers.

  • Supervise education activities in TLCs and schools, including non-formal Formal, and remedial classes.
  • Provide daily support and technical guidance to supervisors, teachers and facilitators.
  • Ensure learning activities follow the schedule, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environment.
  • Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to education policies and codes of conduct.
  • Organize and participate in caregiver engagement and school-related community activities.
  • Manage attendance tracking and basic reporting from TLCs/schools.
  • Handle HR field tasks such as leave tracking and performance inputs for TLC supervisors, teachers and school staff.
  • Support assessments and data collection related to education activities.
  • Fill gaps in TLCs and schools as needed and ensure continuity of learning.
  • Serve as focal point for parenting skills sessions and related community awareness efforts.
  • Plan, organize, and support implementation of parenting skills sessions in collaboration with PSS facilitators and center supervisors.
  • Ensure the proper daily functioning of TLCs and schools, including classroom space management, cleanliness, resource availability, and safety measures.
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits and monitoring checklists to assess the physical condition, functionality, and needs of TLCs/schools.
  • Ensure teaching and learning materials, assets, and furniture are maintained and properly stored or reported when missing/damaged.
  • Support planning and coordination of school/TLC-level meetings with staff and community members to discuss education priorities and concerns.
  • Facilitate and oversee the administration of learning assessments such as the ASER test and placement tests to evaluate foundational literacy and numeracy levels and the progress of children.
  • Coordinate the rollout of SDQ surveys to assess the emotional and social wellbeing of learners in collaboration with PSS staff.
  • Participate in the analysis of assessment data and support the development of action plans based on findings.
  • Monitor the academic progress and psychosocial development of students, and compile regular reports highlighting trends, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Maintain updated and disaggregated records of students’ performance and assessment results to track progress over time.
  • Report key findings from monitoring visits, assessments, and student follow-up to the Education Junior Officer or PSS officer for further action.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Institute Certificates in one of the following departments (Education, Department of Classroom Teaching) or, psychology, pedagogy, Arabic literature, English Literature, or Science or Mathematics, (mandatory).
  • At least 2 years of experience in education or child-focused programming.
  • Experience working in learning centers, schools, or community-based education settings.
  • Experience in Education and/or (Child) Protection programming, with expertise in referral pathways and integrating protection principles into educational centers
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in Arabic; basic English is an asset.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and work in a team.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards in humanitarian programming, including safeguarding.

Ability to work independently, demonstrating organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent organization and coordination skills, with the ability to prioritize, communicate effectively, and meet deadlines.

  • Capacity to thrive in a challenging and evolving humanitarian work environment, often under pressure.

  • Knowledge of the local context and experience with community engagement.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Willingness to travel to TLCs and remote locations.
