JOB SUMMARY
The Frontline Social Worker plays a key role within a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Center dedicated to supporting former detainees and survivors of torture. The role involves welcoming patients in a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environment and conducting initial psychosocial and mental health assessments using structured evaluation tools to identify individual needs, risks, and vulnerabilities.
Based on these assessments, the Frontline Social Worker facilitates appropriate referrals to suitable treatment pathways, including psychological, psychiatric, or psychosocial services, in close coordination with the multidisciplinary team. In addition, the Frontline Social Worker acts as a case manager for each assigned patient, ensuring continuous follow-up, monitoring overall well-being, and supporting adherence to care plans.
As part of the case management role, the Frontline Social Worker also monitors patients’ physical health needs and assists in referring them to appropriate medical centers or primary healthcare services when required. The position requires close collaboration with mental health professionals, medical staff, and program coordinators to ensure holistic, integrated, and survivor-centered care that respects dignity, confidentiality, and the specific needs of individuals affected by detention and torture.
- Welcome patients and conduct initial psychological assessments using standardized tools.
- Categorize cases based on severity (mild, moderate, severe).
- Provide psychoeducation and guide patients to appropriate services.
- Refer patients to group therapy sessions or to a psychiatrist when needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation and coordinate with the Program Coordinator.
- Attend three to four hours of scientific lectures per week related to psychology.
Education
University degree or current study in one of the following fields:
Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Education, Nursing, Public Health, or any related field Or
Academic education can be compensated for by significant relevant work experience in community, humanitarian, health, or psychosocial support work.
Applications from candidates with strong motivation to work in mental health and community service will be considered, even if their field of study is not directly related.
Knowledge and Training
Basic knowledge of the principles of Mental Health and Social Support (MHPSS)
Basic familiarity with common mental health disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, and stress)
Willingness to learn and use structured psychological assessment tools and questionnaires
Commitment to attending 4-5 hours per week of lectures or training related to psychology and mental health
Experience
Previous experience working with vulnerable or crisis-affected groups (internally displaced persons, conflict-affected people, disadvantaged groups) is preferred
Experience in case management, work Community or humanitarian work experience is an asset but not mandatory.
Skills
Good communication skills and the ability to build a supportive professional relationship with beneficiaries.
Ability to conduct interviews in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner.
Good organizational skills and the ability to accurately document and take notes.
Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and coordinate with the program coordinator.
Basic computer skills or paper record-keeping skills, depending on the system in place.
Language
Fluency in Arabic (reading, writing, and speaking).
Basic knowledge of English is an asset for accessing training materials.
