Social Development International SDI is a non-profit NGO established in 2015 and daily registered in Turkey, which provides humanitarian assistance to affected people in Syria.

SDI services cover northern Syria through its programs, SNFIs, Health, Nutrition, Education, WASH, Protection, FSL, and CCCM.

General Description of Unit

The Health and Nutrition Program unit in SDI is responsible for overseeing and implementing projects within the Health, Nutrition, and CWG. The unit ensures that activities are effectively planned, coordinated, and monitored in line with humanitarian standards, donor requirements, and SDI's strategic goals. It plays a key role in engaging with local authorities, technical bodies, and community structures to ensure that interventions are contextually relevant and reach the most vulnerable populations. With a focus on quality management, budget compliance, and protection mainstreaming, the unit supports essential and lifesaving services while adapting to evolving needs and maintaining strong internal and external coordination.

Purpose of Position

The general purpose of the position is to oversee the implementation, monitoring, and supervision of various SDI health and nutrition activities in Syria. This includes leading management, follow-up efforts, and actively preparing reports aligned with set targets, timelines, and budgets, with a particular focus on responding to the evolving security situation in the area of operations.

Communication and coordination structure of the position

Internal Communication: project staff, support departments, project manager, and any communication required on the SDI level.

External Communication: Local Authorities, health directorates, community bodies, health and nutrition centres and any communication required on the project level.

1.Project management:

  • Manage projects' activities in order to achieve objectives within the allotted logical framework, budget and timeframe.

  • Continuous monitoring and oversight of project activities, evaluating progress using outputs and impact.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities in accordance with established time frames and formats.

  • Preparing and submitting daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly narrative reports accordingly.

  • Liaise with donor program staff on issues related to project implementation at the field level.

  • Ensure that gender and protection principles are mainstreamed in all phases of project planning, implementation and reporting.

  • Manage the budget and ensure expenditure is managed appropriately in accordance with the budget and meet SDI's standards and financial procedures, and raise alerts when there is a significant expenditure in the account or understanding.

  • Review all program expenditure docs for accuracy, suitability, and completeness before signing.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate strategies for the sector and the project.

2. Personnel management:

  • Preparation and follow-up of a recutiment plan, and filling any emerging vacancies.

  • Management of the fieldwork team, including daily follow-up, motivation and development.

  • Facilitate regular meetings to assist in the exchange of information among project staff, ensure awareness of project objectives and current work plans, and provide opportunities for feedback.

  • Follow-up training and capacity building plans for project staff, with a focus on transferring key skills.

3. Communication and coordination:

  • Develop and maintain effective coordination with local authorities, health directorates, referral network members, humanitarian response partners, key community members, and relevant stakeholders.

  • Participate in sector coordination meetings, attend available training sessions, and participate in other relevant workshops.

  • Effective communication and coordination with the concerned working group and other agencies to seek coordination and collaboration.

  • Review and update project agreements and memoranda of understanding for program implementation.

  • Ensuring effective internal coordination between SDI staff from all departments.

4.Supplay Chain:

  • The effective follow-up to ensure a smooth and timely procurement process related to the project, which includes issuing a purchase request, following up, evaluating RFQs, issuing purchase orders, receiving proper services and goods, transporting and storing materials, and issuing payment requests.
    Ensure that project inventory and warehouse transactions are managed, issued, and documented accurately and appropriately.
    Good management of the project's assets and fleet according to SDI policies and procedures.

  • Ensure timely and adequate collaboration with supply chain teams.

  • 5. Quality Management:

  • Ensure project implementation is in accordance with SDI, technical bodies, and donors' policies, SOPs, and guidelines.

  • Ensure the quality assurance using internal and external tools, checklists, and trackers to implement high-quality health and nutrition activities.
    Establish quality indicators for the project and monitor progress.

  • Enhance project implementation quality by refining the assessment, monitoring, and evaluation processes, implementing core humanitarian standards, and mainstreaming protection.

  • Monitor monthly project data, and perform quality analysis and project implementation analysis based on the data.

  • Support the Monitoring and Evaluation team to ensure accurate and appropriate data collection and appropriate scheduling.

  • 6.Security management:

  • Ensure the health safety measures are in place, including IPC measures.

  • Monitor the security situation in the implementation area and inform both donors of incidents.

  • Ensure field team compliance with security procedures; Ensure teams security preparedness and awareness.

  • Ensure timely and adequate collaboration with safety and security teams.

  • 7.Other resposiblities:

  • Contribute to strategic planning for the department in line with the overall strategy of SDI.

  • Represent the SDI through meetings and other related events as needed.

  • Contribute to other relevant tasks or responsibilities assigned by the line manager.

  • University degree (Human Medicine «Pharmacy, medical technologist or public health) is preferred.

  • Work experience in similar positions working in the humanitarian sector for at least two years.

  • Proven experience and a good understanding of humanitarian relief operations related to the Syrian context, especially in the health and nutrition sectors.

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Working experiences in public health and in managing health welfare in communities.

  • Experience in supervising Health Promotion activities and some basic mental health activities.

  • Fluency in Arabic.

  • Upper-Intermediate in English
