The Interpreter is to support Non-Speaking Arabic personnel in the field or office with translation services. The Interpreter must keep all the data confidential and share it only with the designated persons. 

 

The Interpreter reports to the Technical Field Manager (TFM) or Chief of Operations (CoO), where he/she will work as part of a team and contributes to the Translation of conversations, written material and assist/help the team when and where required in the field or office.

 

  1. Core Duties

  • Written translation of documents from Arabic into English and vice versa.
  • Translation/interpretation from Arabic into English and vice versa between staff and beneficiaries, trainings and meetings.
  • Supporting HI's employees with translation and interpretation during external meetings with local authorities, local organisation and local partners.
  • Supporting HI's employees with translation and interpretation during field visits.           
  1. Other Responsibilities and Duties

To undertake any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the TFM or CoO in the interest of Humanity & Inclusion (HI) Operations.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: 

  •  Bachelor’s degree in English Literature or a higher qualification in Translation, Linguistics, Language Studies, or a related field.

 

  • Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in interpretation, ideally within Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) or Risk Education settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical translation relevant to HMA is considered an asset.
  • Previous engagement with international NGOs or in high-risk operational environments is strongly preferred.

     
  • Professional & Personal skills required:

  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken (mandatory).
  • Strong technical vocabulary in medical and humanitarian mine action terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and translate sensitive and life-saving information accurately and clearly.
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • High level of confidentiality, professional ethics, and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and adapt to field conditions.
  • Commitment to teamwork, continuous learning, and supporting risk education efforts.
