Project Title:

Reviving Sustainable Family Farming for Earthquake-Affected Recovery

Implementing Organization:

Project Location:

Azmarin – Idlib Governorate (Northwest Syria)

Assignment Title:

Training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Marketing for Smallholder Farmers and Women Participants

Duration of Contract & Level of Effort:

• Training: 5 consecutive days (two daily sessions) covering 5 farmer groups (total 230 farmers).

• Implementation Window: Within the project period 15 Sept 2025 – 15 May 2026 (final calendar to be agreed with

AMAL).

Background

Following the February 2023 earthquake, AMAL is implementing an agricultural recovery project in Azmarin to restore sustainable

family farming. This includes providing agricultural kits and drip irrigation systems to 230 vulnerable households, combined with

practical training on climate-smart practices and linkages to local markets.

The Good Agricultural Practices and Marketing Trainer will deliver structured training to farmers on soil management, pest control,

irrigation, intercropping, and marketing to empower them economically and environmentally.


 

Equip farmers with sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices adapted to small-scale and home gardens.

2. Introduce techniques for soil fertility, integrated pest management, irrigation efficiency, and crop diversification.

3. Strengthen farmers’ capacity in post-harvest handling, local marketing, and income generation.

4. Empower women-headed households and vulnerable groups to participate actively in agricultural and market activities

5. Provide practical demonstrations within training sessionsTarget Group & Modality

• Participants: 230 farmers divided into 5 groups of approximately 46 farmers each.

• Training Arrangement:

o The training will run for 5 days total.

o Each day will have two sessions (morning and afternoon) with different groups.

o Over the 5 days, each group of farmers will attend two complete training sessions (covering GAP + Marketing)..

Scope of Work

A. Training Sessions (Delivered across 5 days):

• Soil management, organic fertilization, and composting.

• Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and safe use of inputs.

• Intercropping and reuse of agricultural residues.

• Efficient irrigation methods (drip irrigation).

• Post-harvest handling and food safety basics.

• Marketing and local market linkages: pricing, packaging, sales strategies.

• Women’s empowerment in sustainable agriculture and marketing.

B. In-Session Demonstrations (within training days)

The trainer will provide practical demonstrations during training to reinforce key practices.

Trainer Responsibilities

• Submit bilingual (AR/EN) training methodology, agenda, and modules for AMAL approval before delivery.

• Prepare and distribute Arabic handouts for all participants.

• Design and administer pre/post tests to measure learning outcomes.

• Deliver participatory and field-based demonstrations emphasizing “learning by doing” during training days.

• Provide attendance sheets and training summary for each day.

• Submit a final report including: methodology, attendance, test results, and recommendations.

Expected Deliverables

• Approved AR/EN training package (syllabus, slides, handouts).

• Pre/post tests with summary analysis.

• Attendance sheets and photos for all training sessions.

• Farmer-friendly GAP & Marketing Guide (draft).

• Final narrative report with recommendations


 

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in Good Agricultural Practices, sustainable farming, and agri-marketing.

• Experience in training smallholder farmers, including women-headed households.

• Familiarity with climate-smart and environmentally friendly practices.

• Fluency in Arabic; English proficiency desirable.

• Prior work in post-crisis rural contexts is an asset.
