TITLE: Communications and Media Coordinator
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Resource Mobilization, Communications and Engagement – Syria Response Office LOCATION: Aleppo, North of Syria
GRADE: 3 CONTRACT LENGTH: N/A

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: (Level 3)

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Communications and Media Coordinator will support the delivery of high-quality communications, media, and visibility outputs from the North and South of Syria. Working under the guidance of the Communications Manager and closely with programme teams, partners, and communities, the Coordinator will produce compelling case studies, beneficiary quotes, photos, and videos that highlight the situation of children and the impact of Save the Children’s programmes. The role will also support internal communications, donor visibility, and media engagement, ensuring alignment with Save the Children’s global brand and guidelines.
This role requires strong field-based content gathering skills, the ability to collaborate with programme teams and partners, and a commitment to safeguarding children and amplifying their voices.

SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Communications and Media Manager (Damascus)

Content Production & Media Support
• Identify, gather, and produce case studies, success stories, social media content, and human-interest stories.
• Collect high-quality photos and videos with proper captions and consent in line with SCI child safeguarding standards.
• Draft clear and accurate beneficiary quotes and stories in line with SCI content guidelines.
• Support preparation of press releases, talking points, and reactive media lines (under the guidance of the Communications Manager).
• Facilitate media visits, prepare background information, and coordinate interviews when required.
• Maintain an organised content database for the North and South of Syria, ensuring all assets are properly labelled, captioned, and consented.
• Provide timely communications support for emergency responses.
Donor Visibility & Reporting Support
• Produce donor-specific visibility content (stories, quotes, photos, videos) in line with donor requirements.
• Work with programme teams to gather visibility materials for donor reports.
• Ensure compliance with donor branding, SCI branding, and visibility guidelines.
• Support drafting of visibility reports and documentation for donor submissions.
Internal Communications & Information Sharing
• Share regular updates and success stories with the Communications and Manager and Resource Mobilization, Communications and Engagement Department.
• Contribute to internal newsletters, reports, and information products highlighting North of Syria activities.
• Provide communications support to area office events, campaigns, and workshops.
Partner Engagement & Capacity Building
• Coordinate with partner organisations’ communications focal points to collect content and strengthen their capacity in communications skills.
• Provide basic training, mentoring, and feedback to ensure partner-produced content meets SCI quality, safeguarding, and branding standards.
Compliance, Safeguarding & Branding
• Ensure all communications outputs follow SCI child safeguarding, consent, and ethical storytelling standards.
• Apply SCI branding and visibility guidelines consistently across all communications products.
• Uphold confidentiality and ensure the dignity and protection of children and families featured in communications materials.

Essential
• University degree in communications, media, journalism, international relations, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• At least 3 years of professional experience in communications, media, or humanitarian storytelling.
• Fluency in Arabic and professional working proficiency in English.
• Strong writing and editing skills for diverse audiences.
• Experience producing content (stories, photos, videos) in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Knowledge of donor visibility requirements and branding practices.
• Strong interpersonal and coordination skills, with the ability to work across teams and with partners.
• Politically and culturally sensitive, with qualities of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, informed consent, and ethical storytelling.
• Commitment to Save the Children’s mission and values, including child safeguarding.
Desirable:
• Previous experience with INGOs or UN agencies.
• Familiarity with the operational context of Aleppo/North of Syria.
• Skills in photography, videography, and basic graphic design.
• Experience supporting media visits or advocacy campaigns.
