The Project Assistant will provide crucial support to the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of agriculture and women’s economic empowerment initiatives in Azaz and Afrin. She will work closely with the project team, local stakeholders, and beneficiaries to ensure smooth operation and alignment with donor requirements and organizational standards. This role specifically requires a female professional due to cultural considerations related to women’s engagement and protection in the target communities.
1. Project Implementation Support:
· Assist in the coordination and implementation of agriculture and women’s economic empowerment activities according to project work plans and timelines.
· Support technical teams in the delivery of climate-smart agricultural training, input distribution, and women’s vocational and business development programs.
· Facilitate communication between project staff, local partners, community groups, and beneficiaries to ensure participatory implementation.
· Assist in beneficiary identification, selection, and verification, ensuring compliance with protection principles, gender equality, and social inclusion (GESI).
· Support organizing and conducting training sessions, workshops, and community awareness campaigns targeting women farmers and entrepreneurs.
2. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL):
· Assist in data collection, entry, and analysis related to project indicators and beneficiary feedback.
· Support baseline, midline, and endline surveys and routine monitoring visits in coordination with the MEAL officer.
· Help in preparing monitoring reports, beneficiary lists, and updates for internal and donor reporting.
· Support beneficiary feedback and complaints mechanisms, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
3. Administrative and Logistical Support:
· Assist in preparing and managing documentation including contracts, attendance sheets, and training materials.
· Support procurement and distribution logistics for agricultural inputs, tools, and equipment, ensuring adherence to donor rules and organizational procedures.
· Help maintain up-to-date records and filing systems for project documentation and correspondence.
· Assist coordination with local authorities, and security briefings for project staff as needed.
4. Coordination and Representation:
· Support liaison and coordination with local councils, community-based organizations (CBOs), women’s groups, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project implementation.
· Participate in relevant coordination meetings and represent the project as directed, ensuring timely sharing of information and collaboration.
· Assist in awareness-raising and advocacy activities related to women’s economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture.
- Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering, Agronomy, Rural Development, or related fields.
· Additional qualifications or certificates in women’s economic empowerment, livelihoods, or community development are an asset.
- Experience:
· Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience in agriculture project implementation, preferably with a focus on women’s economic empowerment in humanitarian or development settings.
· Proven experience working in Northwest Syria or similar conflict-affected contexts, with strong understanding of local socio-cultural dynamics, gender norms, and protection considerations.
· Familiarity with climate-smart agriculture practices, value chain approaches, and livelihood grant programs is highly desirable.
· Experience coordinating with local authorities, CBOs, and other humanitarian/development actors.
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Strong technical knowledge of agriculture, including crop production, soil management, irrigation, pest control, and post-harvest handling.
· Good understanding of women’s economic empowerment principles and effective approaches for vulnerable groups in conservative contexts.
· Ability to work sensitively and effectively with women beneficiaries, respecting cultural norms while promoting empowerment and inclusion.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in Arabic (spoken and written);
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data management skills.
· Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask under tight deadlines.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
· Commitment to humanitarian principles, gender equality, social inclusion, and protection standards.
Additional Information:
· This position is exclusively open to female candidates to ensure safe and culturally appropriate engagement with women beneficiaries.
· The duty station will be in Azaz and Afrin, with occasional travel to field sites within these areas.
· The role requires flexibility to work in a challenging security environment and adapt to changing operational conditions.
