The Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Banksman is responsible to supervise and Lead Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) ERW monitoring and support to reconstruction efforts in areas contaminated with ERW & Explosive Ordnance (EO) which may include on-site support to mechanical assets and rubble clearance, EO identification, EO handling and/or final disposal, risk assessments and reporting. The ERW Banksman will report to the Project Operations Manager, where they will contribute to maintaining safety, discipline and team spirit and engage in operational tasks as directed to meet operational requirements. Work With the Project Operations Manager as directed in line with Humanity & Inclusion (HI) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in a safe and controlled manner. 1. Core Duties • Execute tasks, including training, safety and security, daily operational planning and implementation, and the direction and discipline of the supporting HI staff. • Complete Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) and Mine Action Reports. • Ensure all safety protocols are carried out and adhered to. • Ensure the correct care and maintenance of all Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), equipment, vehicles, tools and stores. Report any losses, deficiencies, faults or problems to the Project Operations Manager immediately. • Ensure strict adherence to safety and SOPs, in particular, the correct PPE is used and worn when required. • Provide input/feedback on equipment and procurement of new equipment. • Support the Project Operations Manager in planning activities to achieve objectives. • Provide technical assistance and support to the Project Operations Manager. 2. Other Responsibilities and Duties • Importantly, support all team members in their work and their development, treating them courteously and with respect, whilst also instilling discipline in the field, good time keeping and maintaining the moral and motivation of the team. • Provide input to TF Project Operations Manager for capacity building of the team members. • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Project Operations Manager in the interest of HI Operations and Team wellbeing.
Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements - Education: • EOD L2 certificate in accordance with IMAS 09.30. PROOF OF CERTIFICATION FROM A RECOGNISED HMA/EOD TRAINING PROVIDER IS MANDATORY AND SHOULD BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION FOR THIS POSITION • Additional certifications in Mine Action, Risk Education, or safety management are considered an asset. • Valid driving licence - Professional Experience: • At least 3–5 years of experience in humanitarian or operational fieldwork. • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role, ideally within Mine Action, Risk Education, or similar sectors. • Experience coordinating with international NGOs or working in high-risk environments is an asset. - Professional & Personal skills required: • Strong leadership and team coordination abilities. • Proven capacity to implement and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). • Ability to manage operational planning, reporting, and quality assurance. • Skilled in risk management, safety protocols, and emergency response. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and staff motivation. • High level of accountability, integrity, and discretion. • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing field conditions. • Basic proficiency in data collection, reporting tools, and digital collaboration platforms. • Language proficiency in English and the local language is preferred.
