Background

‘Nabni’ (نبني), meaning ‘we build’ in Arabic, is an initiative that seeks to further the Building for Peace (B4P) approach in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It aims to contribute to locally led reconstruction processes in the region that also promote peace, address the underlying drivers of local conflict, (re) build infrastructure, create new economic opportunities and strengthen social cohesion in target communities. The Facility is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the KfW Development Bank and works primarily through local civil society organisations in countries of intervention. Nabni is currently operational in Iraq and Yemen and is in the process of operationalising in Syria. For more information on Nabni and our approaches, please visit www.nabni-facility.org

What we are looking for

 Nabni, is looking for a facility manager for its operations in Syria. This is a senior role that will serve as the main entry point of the Facility at country level. They are responsible for coordinating the Facility’s support to local NGO (LNGO) partners and proactively engaging with national and local stakeholders throughout the project cycle to ensure coordination and improved acceptance of the Facility.

The role combines both strategic elements – helping shape the strategy of the Facility, monitoring the operational context in the country and making recommendations to the Facility Director or adaptations necessary, position the Facility among and representing it to key stakeholders, advising and supporting with partner selection, as well as operational elements – linked to supporting and maintaining oversight of all aspects of the operations of local partners.

What you will bring

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a senior management position  
  • Prior expertise in implementing and monitoring programming in fragile contexts of the MENA Region and specifically in Syria is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of working closely with national civil society organisations across Syria.
  • Proven experience working on partnerships with local organisations, supporting capacity development activities or in leading local organisations.
  • Advanced University degree in social sciences, international development, conflict studies, public policy or another related field.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience in representation and advocacy.
  • Specific knowledge of German development cooperation is an advantage.

What we offer:

  • Note: applicants must be legally eligible to work in Syria. We are unable to provide work permits or visa sponsorships for this position.
  • Duty station: Damascus, Syria.
  • Contract:12 months. Renewal based on funding and performance.
  • Travel: 30% within Syria, occasionally to Amman.
  • Salary/benefits: Grade 10 on NRC’s Syria’s national salary scale
