The Media Coordinator supports the organization’s communication and visibility efforts by coordinating, producing, and disseminating high-quality media content (written, visual, digital) across channels. This role bridges the media team, program departments, and external partners to ensure consistent messaging, brand alignment, and narrative impact. The Media Coordinator plays a strategic role in raising awareness about the NGO’s mission, programs, and achievements, while managing media projects and maintaining media relationships.

1. Media Strategy Implementation

  • Work with Media Manager to translate the overall communication strategy into detailed content and media action plans.
  • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar (monthly/quarterly) that aligns with programmatic and institutional priorities.
  • Identify media opportunities (campaigns, event coverage, storytelling) and propose creative concepts to increase reach and impact.

2. Content Creation & Production

  • Write, edit, and proofread communications materials: press releases, blog articles, success stories, speeches, and opinion pieces.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, case studies, and human-interest stories highlighting the impact of field programs.
  • Facilitate content production with the design team to produce infographics, data visualizations, and branded information materials.
  • Work with photographers/videographers to produce multimedia content (video documentaries, photo stories, short features) for digital platforms.

3. Social Media Management

  • Manage and maintain official social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Develop, schedule, and post content aligned with the editorial calendar.
  • Monitor social media performance (likes, shares, engagement), analyze trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Engage with followers, respond to comments, and moderate online discussions in line with the organization’s voice and policies.

4. External Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, influencers, and partner organizations.
  • Coordinate interviews, press events, and media briefings.
  • Send out press releases, media kits, and other communications to announce program milestones, campaigns, or key events.
  • Track media coverage (clippings, mentions, interviews) and provide regular reports on media visibility.

5. Event & Campaign Support

  • Provide media support for organizational events (workshops, campaigns, launches), including media planning, coverage, documentation, and post-event reporting.
  • Liaise with program teams to align communication goals with campaign objectives.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging throughout all event materials and media outputs.

6. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Establish and track media KPIs such as reach, engagement, number of media stories, sentiment, and visibility.
  • Produce monthly or quarterly media performance reports.
  • Conduct post-campaign reviews and media analysis to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain a digital archive of media assets, reports, and communications deliverables in organized systems.

7. Branding & Visibility Compliance

  • Ensure all communication materials comply with donor branding and visibility guidelines.
  • Provide guidance to program teams on branding usage (logos, templates, banners) in their outreach materials.
  • Monitor and address visibility gaps or inconsistencies in program communication.

8. Risk Management & Safeguarding

  • Ensure that media activities adhere to the organization’s safeguarding policies (e.g., child protection, informed consent).
  • Obtain written consent from beneficiaries or participants before taking or publishing their images or stories.
  • Assess reputational risks in all media content; consult with Media Manager prior to publishing sensitive stories.

9. Capacity Building & Internal Coordination

  • Train staff (program, field, and admin) on media best practices, storytelling, and communications tools.
  • Facilitate internal communication by sharing media guidelines, updates, and key media messages with team members.
  • Support the onboarding of new media staff and interns; mentor junior communication team members.
  • Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in communications, media, or public relations; experience in NGOs or development sector strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to write and edit in Arabic and English across different formats (press, digital, storytelling).
  • Proficiency in digital media tools and platforms: social media management, CMS (e.g., WordPress), email marketing tools.
  • Experience with multimedia content creation: working with photographers, videographers, or designers.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and analytics.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple deliverables.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills; comfortable working with media and partners.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, humanitarian, and ethical issues; strong understanding of safeguarding and consent practices.
