Technical Lead - WAM, Syria

Subject to funding

The starting salary package for this position is £78,436 GBP / approx. $108,300 USD including all allowances.
About the role:

The Technical Lead will implement all aspects of Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) and related tasks in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures in Syria. This will include coordinating and providing technical oversight on WAM type projects from the initial project design and management, conducting assessments, supervising field operations, providing training, and ensuring compliance with international standards. You will lead liaison efforts with national authorities and Security and Defence Forces, while coordinating with MAG's Programme Quality Team to align in-country activities with organizational standards. This is a crucial role where you will improve safety, security, and operational effectiveness as MAG expands initiatives across Syria.

You must have experience of working in weapon and ammunition management (WAM/SALW/PSSM) type operations in countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict. You must have relevant professional training, including EOD 3 IMAS qualification with field experience of operations, armoury assessments, and conducting bulk demolitions. You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others. The ability to work autonomously and develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, diplomacy and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects.

About the Syria programme:

MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013, working to support development by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. In addition to our current programme in the North East, you will also support the safe expansion of initiatives across all of Syria, based on where and how opportunities arise in the future.
