Reporting to the Facility Manager or Facility Officer as appropriate, and in compliance with hygiene standards, the cleaner shall perform housekeeping, cleaning and tidying duties in order to keep professional and residential buildings, public areas and private areas reserved for staff in a good state of cleanliness.

 

  1. Mission 1: Roll out Standards, contribute to HI's Expertise and Accountability in his/her scope of responsibility:
  • STANDARDS: Apply HI standards in terms of policies, processes and tools across his/her professional field
  • LOCAL ADAPTATION: apply context-specific standards to local conditions and regulations

 

 

  1. Mission 2: Operational implementation – Logistics
  • According to his/her assignment, carry out housekeeping duties in administrative and/or residential buildings: sweeping/washing floors and windows, dusting and/or cleaning furniture, dusting and/or cleaning doors, switches, door handles and other contact surfaces, cleaning and disinfecting sanitary installations, replenishing consumables, emptying waste bins etc.
  • Clean (sweeping and washing floors - NB, limiting - this also involves the cleaning of furniture e.g. windows) rooms/offices, bathrooms, toilets and other rooms
  • Replenish drinking-water supplies and check that there are sufficient reserves of water (kitchens, showers etc.) during water cuts
  • Inform his/her line manager of the need to replenish reserves (toilet paper, soap etc.) as needed so as to provide advance warning of the need for replenishment
  • Assume responsibility for laundry, ironing clothes and other domestic tasks
  • washing up, cleaning the kitchen etc.
  • Keep the premises properly locked (doors, windows)
  • According to the assignment, clean, sweep and wash the exterior floors of administrative and/or residential buildings (gardens, patios, car parks)
  • Clean (sweep and wash floors - again, not linked to what is to be done outside) according to the assignment: professional and residential buildings, public areas and private areas reserved for external staff of administrative and/or residential buildings (gardens, patios, car parks)

 

 

 

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: 

  • Basic literacy with a primary education certificate required.

  • Secondary education is considered an added asset.

 

  • Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of proven experience, preferably within an NGO or INGO setting.

 

  • Professional & Personal skills required:

  • Professional Cleaning Skills: Advanced housekeeping, floor and window care, and proper disinfection of high‑touch areas.

  • Safety & Hygiene Compliance: Strong understanding of health, safety, and chemical‑handling protocols.

  • Inventory Management: Ability to track supplies and report replenishment needs promptly.

  • Laundry Expertise: Skilled in washing, drying, and ironing garments and linens to a high standard.

  • Facility Monitoring: Identifying and reporting maintenance issues or safety risks.

  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring all areas meet high cleanliness and presentation standards.

  • Discretion & Integrity: Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in private or office environments.

  • Effective Communication: Reporting incidents, suggesting improvements, and coordinating with the team.

  • Reliability & Physical Endurance: Consistently performing physically demanding tasks with high quality.

  • Adaptability & Stress Management: Staying calm and effective under pressure or urgent operational needs.

  • English language skills are an added advantage.
