General Objective of the Position
The Education Project Coordinator leads and oversees all components of the education project—including design, implementation, coordination, monitoring, reporting, and partnerships—in accordance with quality and governance standards. The role ensures effective and sustainable access to education or educational support (formal, non-formal, or remedial) for targeted populations, while adhering to safeguarding principles, inclusivity, accountability, and donor requirements.
Working Relationships
Education team, local partners and schools, local authorities or education directorates, partner organizations, logistics and resources teams, MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) department, and in some cases volunteers or temporary staff.
1. Program Planning, Design, and Implementation
- Conduct educational needs assessments (formal, non-formal education, psychosocial support, remedial education) in targeted areas in coordination with partners and local communities.
- Develop detailed implementation plans for education projects, including activities, timelines, budgets, human resources, and materials.
- Coordinate the distribution of educational supplies and related logistics (transportation, securing venues, equipment), particularly for projects involving school or learning space rehabilitation.
- Design or adapt educational activities, including curricula content, learning materials, lesson plans, and psychosocial or non-formal education activities, based on identified needs.
2. Team Management and Partner Coordination
- Manage field-based education teams (staff, trainers, facilitators), including recruitment, task coordination, capacity building, and field supervision.
- Coordinate with local partner organizations, schools, local authorities, and community institutions to ensure joint and effective implementation.
- Represent the project in coordination meetings and Education Cluster / Sector coordination groups when applicable, and act as a focal point between donors, partners, and authorities.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Quality, and Accountability
- Establish and oversee a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system to track indicators such as participation, student attendance, quality of teaching and implementation, achievements, and challenges.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor activities, ensure compliance with plans and standards, and maintain a safe environment that applies safeguarding, inclusion, and gender principles.
- Prepare periodic reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) outlining project outputs, performance indicators, results, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
- Document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned for internal reference and donor reporting.
4. Budget Management, Resources, and Compliance
- Monitor the project budget, expenditures, and resource utilization, ensuring compliance with approved budgets and donor restrictions.
- Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams to secure educational supplies, materials, and other project resources.
- Ensure all activities comply with safeguarding standards, beneficiary dignity, transparency, and safety procedures, particularly when working with children or students.
5. Emergency Response and Context Adaptation
- Maintain readiness for field travel within Syria and conduct site visits according to activity locations.
- Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in challenging and rapidly changing environments, with strong security awareness and understanding of the Syrian crisis context.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development / Community Development, Sociology, Project Management, or a related field.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience in coordinating or managing education projects in emergency or development contexts, preferably within Syria or similar settings.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, partnership coordination, reporting, logistics planning, and field implementation.
- Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written). Good command of English is an asset for reporting and coordination with donors or external stakeholders.
- Ability to conduct field travel, work under pressure, and adapt to changing field or security conditions.
- Solid understanding of safeguarding principles, child protection, inclusion, gender, Education in Emergencies (EiE), and protection mainstreaming.
