The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of early recovery and livelihoods interventions. The focus is on community-based initiatives such as Cash-for-Work, rehabilitation of basic services and infrastructure (WASH, irrigation, sewage, and water networks), women’s economic empowerment, and activities promoting social cohesion and psychosocial wellbeing.
The role requires a strong understanding of the local context, gender-sensitive programming, and effective communication and coordination skills with local communities and authorities in Northwest Syria.
1. Program Implementation:
· Support the rollout and field-level implementation of CFW schemes including public infrastructure rehabilitation, irrigation systems, sewage lines, and WASH facilities.
· Assist in the implementation of community-based services with a focus on women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
· Facilitate the delivery of women’s economic empowerment and livelihood activities, ensuring inclusivity and gender equity.
· Support in identifying public service assets (water, sanitation, irrigation) for rehabilitation.
· Assist in mobilizing local communities and stakeholders during project planning and implementation.
2. Community Engagement and Coordination:
· Coordinate with Local Councils, CBOs, and community committees to ensure smooth implementation.
· Organize and facilitate community meetings, field assessments, and focus group discussions.
· Ensure conflict sensitivity and Do No Harm principles are respected during engagement.
· Liaise with technical engineers and social workers involved in infrastructure or social cohesion activities.
3. Monitoring and Reporting:
· Collect and consolidate attendance sheets, work progress reports, and community feedback.
· Support in beneficiary verification, CFW time tracking, and payment documentation.
· Submit regular updates on project progress to the Project Officer and MEAL team.
· Ensure documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and beneficiary case studies.
4. Protection and Inclusion:
· Ensure inclusive programming and protection mainstreaming in all field activities.
· Identify and report protection risks, gender-based vulnerabilities, and referral needs.
· Promote women’s participation and social cohesion among different community groups.
· Collaborate with MHPSS and protection teams, when relevant, to integrate services.
· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related field.
· At least 2 years of experience in implementing field-level humanitarian or development projects in Northwest Syria.
· Previous experience in Income Generation, WASH rehabilitation, and community infrastructure projects is essential.
· Good understanding of social cohesion, protection principles, and gender-sensitive approaches.
· Previous involvement in livelihoods, women empowerment, or MHPSS projects is a strong asset.
· Knowledge of humanitarian standards (SPHERE, CHS, PSEA, Do No Harm) is preferred.
· Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and coordination skills.
· Proficiency in Arabic; knowledge of English or Kurdish is a plus.
