Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to
patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated
medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal
hygiene standards to improve the patients/ beneficiaries
health conditions.
Apply medical knowledge and skills in disease
diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and
inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary
treatment respecting MSF protocols.
• Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed
about the illness and provide appropriate
explanations about the treatment to follow, checking
to ensure they understood.
• Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IPD
patients, through daily visits , consultations and
examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment
following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can
be discharged or transferred to other departments –
in collaboration with other doctors- and informing
their family about the patient’s evolution.
• Check and control the rational distribution of
medicines and equipment under his/her
responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection
and sterilization of the medical material. Assure
general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
• Participate in the collection and analysis of
epidemiological data, checking its validity and
informing the line manager or project coordinator
about any problem or complication of the patient’s
illness, medical error and monitors the proper
functioning of the department, equipment or
material.
• Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical
multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of
care.
• Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are
followed and implemented, checking universal
precautions are also always followed and reducing
biohazard risks and improving infection control.
Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
• Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility
according to MSF HR policies and procedures,
supervising their performance, organizing and
scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating
in emergencies and on calls if necessary.
Provide and ensure that the best patient care is given
in the Emergency Department through emergency
burn management, protocol implementation and
ensuring compliance with MSF standards, policies,
guidelines and protocols,
• Provide the best inpatient medical care to patients in
the IPD Department according to adapted and updated
medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and
universal hygiene standards to improve the patients’
health conditions,
• For IPD doctor in charge of staff health clinic in close
collaboration and coordination with the project
medical referent
Collects complete history and performs complete
physical examination on admission of all patients,
• Daily review of all IPD patients with complete physical
examination and update on history.
• Follow patient care including vitals monitoring, blood
transfusion and lab tests.
• Provide adapted information to patients and family
about the illness and the prescribed treatment,
• Maintain good communication and collaboration with
other departments within and outside the Burn Unit,
including the referral system,
• Follow-up of the referral system and fill the
appropriate form, contact and share adequate
information with the target hospital to ensure proper
patient care between both facilities.
• Follow external consultations and lab tests with other
health facilities.
• Fills discharge and follow up sheets,
• Ensures professional confidentiality is respected,
• Immediate report of accidental blood exposure to his
/ her supervisor,
• Participate in the medical meetings when required,
• Notify any problem to his/her supervisor.
• Exceptionally, with special needs after end of working
time, might be contacted by phone, or asked to arrive
to the hospital at night, for patient urgent issues.
• When relevant, participate in the quality of work
improvement (e.g. Morbidity and mortality review,
Surgical site infections forms, Telemedicine
consultation, etc..).
• Supports other medical teams/wards when needed
(i.e. physiotherapy team, ER doctors, etc.)
• Proper handover with ER MD who will cover the IPD in
the evenings, nights and holidays.
Education: Medical Doctor diploma Desirable
diploma in medicine or paediatrics.
Experience: 2 year experience minimum as a
Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within
medical training). Desirable in medicine,
paediatrics, ICU or anesthesia.
Languages: Mission language essential. Local
language desirable.
