The primary function of the Assistant WASH (Engineer) is to ensure the delivery of the WASH hardware activities in the
coordination and guidance of the Senior Officer WASH or WASH Manager or WASH Coordinator. Assist in assessments,
planning, preparation of BoQ, specifications, drawings, implementation, supervision, management of the financial, material,
and other resources under the WASH and infrastructure program.
Responsible for installation of piped water networks, repair, and maintenance of pipelines, fixing leakage and supports the
Officer WASH in the installation of pumps and generators and proper operation of surface pumps, submersible pumps, and
generators for safe water supply systems. Delivering the Sanitation, waste management (hardware) component at Health
facilities, IDPs, refugee camps and host communities. These will have a strong link to ongoing or planned water and sanitation,
as well as other IMC core sector programs.
The role supports the concept papers and proposals for interventions and provides data required in close cooperation with the
team.

Conduct the rapid needs assessments and their analysis and conduct household-level assessments.
Supports the WASH officer in transitioning needs identified into activity plans and budgets.
Program Design and implementation
Support installation of electrical components and solar systems for water projects and health facilities
Draft, review, and update Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and Books of Conditions/Specifications (BoCs) for WASH and
electrical components and solar systems in health facilities.
Deliver the implementation of the aims and objectives of the WASH response program in line with the WASH
Coordinator or Manager's WASH guidance and WASH strategy.
Support the development of concept papers, letters of intent, proposals, and budgets for assigned WASH areas.
Deliver the designed technologies for water, sanitation, and solid waste systems for the health facilities, IDPs, refugee
camps and host communities.
Serve as technical focal person for activities related to water (plumbing, pipeline network installation and managing
day to day water system operation, and leakage maintenance at each point of the system to ensure supplying of
required quantity of safe water) to the refugee, IDPs and Local community.
Serve as technical focal person for activities related to sanitation (plumbing, latrine construction, and managing day
to day sanitation operation), to ensure supplying of required sanitation services to the refugee, IDPs and Local
community.
Serve as technical focal person for activities related to waste management/IPC, and managing day to day operation,
to ensure supplying of required waste management services to the refugee, IDPs and Local community. Actively participate with community volunteers in identifying locations/sites for WASH infrastructures (latrines
construction/rehabilitation, borehole drilling/rehabilitation, etc.) in the beneficiary communities and coordinate closely
with CHVs to identify informal settlements in host communities.
Responsible for on-site maintenance of structures including fixing, repairs.
Manage day-to-day activities of contractors and skilled and unskilled laborers.
Organize training sessions and participate in facilitation in health facilities, IDP camps, Schools, and host communities
for O&M activities and determine the necessary materials needed for each campaign/activity.
Prepare and submit the PR to logistic and financial section.
Work with Officer WASH to identify priority areas to improve International Medical Corps emergency response
capacity.
Ensure SPHERE and WHO standards (both qualitative and quantitative) are considered through the program cycle and
are well documented.
Provide regular updates on progress, priorities, and challenges - verbally and in writing. In addition, Work closely with
Officer WASH for any required technical guidance and direction of the WASH interventions.
If assigned, collect water samples from households and water sources and conduct quality tests using the Del Aqua Kit
Record all results of the water test.
Consult with M and E to provide accurate raw data for WASH Hardware program delivery and to provide input for
monthly and quarterly WASH reports and prepare monthly progress reports according to donor standards and
templates, internal reports, and M/E reports for concerned sectors.
Timely reporting of WASH Hardware activities to the supervisor/WASH Officer
Information and Coordination
Provide regular updates and technical guidance to the WASH Coordinator or Manager WASH on progress, priorities,
and challenges – verbally and in writing.
Represent International Medical Corps as assigned by WASH Coordinator or Manager WASH in governmental and
non-governmental groups as needed and agreed with the supervisor.

Minimum bachelor's degree, water and sanitation engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering or relevant
technical WASH specialization.
Experience
At least one year of work experience designing and implementing water and sanitation systems in IDPs, refugee
and migrant contexts, maintaining sanitation systems, and implementing hygiene promotion programs, including
two years in a humanitarian setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of experience supervising contractors and interacting with international staff, partners, and donors.
Field experience managing national water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in complex humanitarian settings,
including emergency responses.
Experience in a national emergency and early recovery phases, including assessing and delivering adequate water
supply and sanitation interventions in humanitarian and development contexts.
Skills and Competencies
The ability to effectively analyze complex problems and suggest a solution that would have a positive impact.
Ability and understanding of the WASH sector and its software and hardware components.
Competent in using Windows and other software.
Ability to effectively present information (both written and verbal) and respond appropriately to questions from
senior managers, field counterparts, and senior government officials.
Ability to understand sex-related challenges within the beneficiary groups.
