Caritas Syria seeks skilled Agronomist to play pivotal role in implementing and monitoring its Agricultural & Food Security Project in Weastern Al Ghouta, Rural Damascus. This position involves Farmers training, overseeing Project activities and providing technical guidance to Beneficiaries as they establish productive and sustainable agricultural systems. Agronomist will collaborate with Team of Agronomists, Social Worker and Project Officer based in Damascus Office, reporting directly to Project Officer.
Contribute to selecting Project Beneficiaries based on jointly developed selection criteria in coordination with local communities
Participate in defining specifications for in-kind distributed grants (agricultural tools, seeds, seedlings, drip irrigation systems) alongside technical experts
Ensure these resources align with Project goals and Beneficiaries needs
Collaborate on developing training materials on regenerative agriculture practices
Deliver training sessions to targeted Farmers on specific techniques for achieving Project goals
Oversee Project's agricultural activities in assigned villages, this includes coordinating establishment and management of kitchen gardens, focusing on implementation of regenerative agricultural techniques
Provide ongoing technical guidance and advice to Project Farmers in close collaboration with technical experts, this involves monitoring progress, identifying challenges and offering solutions
Encourage Project Farmers to experiment with new, sustainable agricultural techniques and share best practices amongst themselves
Conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to gather in-depth feedback from Beneficiaries on achievements, challenges and areas for improvement
Submit regular reports (weekly and monthly) to Project Officer detailing progress of agricultural activities, achievements and any encountered challenges
Document lessons learned and successful practices throughout Project, this can be used for future project development or knowledge sharing
Education and experiences:
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, or closely related field
Two to three years of experience working directly with Farmers in field, preferably in agronomy, food security, or sustainable agriculture Projects
Prior experience implementing development projects in Food, Agriculture and livelihoods Sectors, particularly within humanitarian sector (plus point)
Strong understanding and practical application of sustainable agricultural methods
Proficiency in using data collection and analysis tools to monitor Project impact.

Strong organizational skills and meticulous approach to record-keeping and reporting
Very good command of English in writing and speaking
Very good computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-point
