The FSL Assistant will support the implementation of all Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL)
activities in rural Hama, working under the direct supervision of the FSL Officer. The Assistant will
be primarily responsible for field-level coordination, participant follow-up, and data collection related
to agricultural, livestock, and small business support interventions.
S/he will assist in organizing distributions, trainings, and monitoring visits, ensuring that all activities
are carried out in accordance with Mercy Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality
standards. The Assistant will maintain close communication with participants, community committees,
and local authorities, ensuring transparent and accurate delivery of services and continuous feedback
from the field. This position requires a motivated, detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding
of community dynamics, good organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced
field environment.
Keep the FSL Program Officer updated with regards to the security situation in the MC area
of intervention.
1▪ Conduct general and sector focused needs assessments (especially Population movements,
needs assessment, Market Price Surveys, Market Assessments & Vendor Assessments, and
any other assessments needed).
▪ Ensure day to day implementation of FSL activities (participants’ selection, distribution,
payments, and monitoring activities through field visits).
▪ Coordinate with local association, vendors, hawala, and contractors on planning, objectives,
and activities.
▪ Ensure that FSL activities with program stakeholders are accurately documented.
▪ Provide weekly field reports, capturing activities progress, lessons learned as well as general
situation and community needs.
▪ Conduct relevant promotion sessions with targeted communities, when requested.
▪ Oversee any other activities required by the manager.
BA/BS in Agriculture, Economy, Trade, or equivalent.
▪ At least 2 years of previous FSL related experience.
▪ Experience in FSL interventions.
▪ Experience in Vocational training is preferable.
▪ Experience in market-based approach.
▪ Experience in community work and/or experience in project implementation.
▪ Good problem-solving skills.
▪ Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, analyzing, and reporting.
▪ Ability to interact effectively with team members as well as with project partners and community
members.
▪ Good command of English (spoken and written)
▪ Good computer skills – Word and Excel.
▪ Ability to conduct oneself with sensitivity and respect towards others.
▪ Knowledge of the Syrian conflict context a plus.
