Professional approachWe are looking for a highly collaborative professional.Personal attributesThis role is based in Aleppo, and the post-holder must be willing to work on site in the Old City full-time.QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.Specific job skills and experienceEssential• Demonstrable post-qualification work experience in Civil or Structural Engineering;• Strong understanding of structural principles and basic analysis.• Ability to read and produce technical drawings (AutoCAD required).• Knowledge of SAP2000/ETABS (basic level acceptable).• Interest in structural conservation and traditional building systems.Desirable• Experience with structural assessment of old buildings and familiarity with stone masonry behaviour and consolidation techniques are desirable.Skills and abilities• Strong IT skills including experience of software detailed above, as well as Microsoft 365 software (Teams; Outlook; Word; Excel etc.).• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.• Capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.• Fluent in Arabic, both verbal and written.• A good standard of English, both verbal and written.• Be dependable and credible, with the ability to establish good working relationships at all levels.What we offerThe role includes a structured training programme including:• Workshops on lime plaster, stone masonry, and traditional materials.• Mentorship by senior structural and conservation experts.• Exposure to international conservation standards and donor reporting.• On-site learning in a complex, multi-phase heritage project.• Opportunities for long-term career development within the Khan al-Wazir program.The role is offered initially on a consultancy basis for a period of twelve months.This role has been assessed as a grade 3 per Turquoise Mountain’s pay strategy. Remuneration will be in the region of $800 USD per month, depending on experience.We particularly welcome applications from people already living or working in Syria.
