The Partnerships Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the Independent Doctor’s Association (IDA) is well-positioned to achieve its long-term strategies by fostering partnerships with external actors, including institutional donors, government, civil society, the private sector, media and other stakeholders. The role oversees the business development aspects of IDA, focusing on partnerships and resource mobilization, as well as managing public relations, marketing and advocacy efforts to raise awareness of the organization’s work and advocate for its mission. The Partnerships Coordinator leads the Partnerships Department, to develop and roll out targeted strategies and sustained relationships with existing and potential donors, partners and external stakeholders in the overall effort to mobilize and sustain IDA. It also interacts with other units and departments to ensure positive interactions from across IDA to lead to new partnership opportunities.

These responsibilities will be the same for all positions with the same title.

  • Actively participates as a management team member to ensure good collaboration, communication, strategic planning and implementation of IDA’s partnerships and representation activities.

Representation, Principled Partnerships, Fundraising and Coordination:

  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of IDA’s resource mobilization, fundraising/donor engagement and external engagement strategies, encompassing the raising and maintenance of funding partnerships and relationships with external stakeholders, to advance IDA’s strategic priorities and financial targets.
  • Identify and explore new partnerships (funding, coordination, research institutes, private sector, etc.) in line with IDA’s strategic goals, update partnership mapping, and foster relationships for collaborative programming and capacity building.
  • Establish a clear and compelling vision for IDA’s partnerships in collaboration with SMT that encompasses robust ways of working internally and with external partners.
  • Represent IDA in high-level strategic and coordination meetings with partners, donors, UN agencies and other stakeholders, ensuring IDA’s interests are effectively communicated.
  • Build strategic relationships and influence with external actors, such as donors, UN agencies, partners and government ministries key to IDA’s operations, the implementation of its grant activities and specific advocacy projects.
  • Set annual income targets in collaboration with Head of Department and SMT, and lead the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to achieve IDA's financial targets.
  • Represent the General Director and serve as a primary point of contact for the General Director for strategic discussions and coordination meetings with partners, donors, UN agencies, and other stakeholders, in coordination fora, networking events, etc. strengthening IDA’s visibility and influence, and ensuring IDA’s interests are effectively communicated where relevant.
  • Working with the Senior Partnerships Manager, develop, implement and monitor donor engagement plans and partnership strategies to expand IDA's network and secure diverse funding sources, in coordination with relevant IDA departments.
  • Working with the Partnerships, Communications and Advocacy Unit, ensure that the organization’s visibility and outreach efforts are aligned across partnerships, communications and advocacy strategies and objectives, keeping all external stakeholders updated about IDA.
  • Working closely with the PCA Unit, arrange donor, partner, and media visits, as required.

Team Management and Leadership

  • Directly manage the Senior Partnerships Manager and Senior Communications and Advocacy Manager, ensuring their alignment with IDA’s strategic goals.
  • Develop workplans for the Partnerships, Communications and Advocacy Unit staff, ensuring effective communication channels with SMT.
  • Mentor and support team members, ensuring their professional growth and performance.
  • Foster collaboration between the Partnerships, Communications and Programs departments to align efforts and maximize impact.

Other duties

  • Conduct regular visits to field locations to contribute to representation of IDA’s work with potential donors and partners. Expected travel, up to 40%.
  • Ensure compliance with IDA policies, guidelines and standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information, including financial and human resource data.
  • Performs any other duties requested by the General Director.

Competencies

Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organization to deliver desired results. They are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following two categories:

  • 1. Professional competencies

    These are skills, knowledge, and experience that are important for effective performance.

  • Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in international affairs, public administration, communications, business, environmental studies, or a related field;
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in resource mobilization, grants management, communications, advocacy or strategic planning in humanitarian or development organizations. Knowledge of health and protection sector resilience-related processes and of the health sector more generally is strongly preferred, but not an asset;
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities;
  • Proven access to a global network of donors and partners and leverage to build new networks and mobilize financing, short and long-term;
  • Exceptional competencies in writing, communication, and facilitation;
  • Experience working within a humanitarian context; previous experience working in the Syria regional response preferred;
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts;
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities;
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and Word.

Context/specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context across Syria;

  • Good standing and reputation in the community;

  • Experience of working with local partners;

  • Experience of conducting assessments and monitoring activities;

  • Exceptional strategic planning and problem-solving skills;

  • Advanced representation and negotiation skills with experience in high-level coordination;

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify opportunities and risks;

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in English (Arabic is a strong advantage);

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.
