RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DESCRIPTION

The Psychosocial Support Worker contributes to the emotional well-being, resilience, social participation and educational inclusion of children and youth with disabilities through the provision of structured, inclusive and age-appropriate psychosocial support interventions. Working in close collaboration with the Inclusion Case Worker, teachers, caregivers and education partners, the PSS Worker delivers individual, group and home-based psychosocial support, strengthens caregiver capacities, promotes positive learning environments and supports the multidisciplinary referral process for children and caregivers requiring specialized mental health, protection, rehabilitation, or other specialized services.

 

1.     Missions / responsibilities

 

·       Deliver structured individual and group psychosocial support (PSS) sessions for children and youth with disabilities and other vulnerable children enrolled in formal and non-formal education activities.

·       Receive referrals from Inclusion Case Workers for psychosocial interventions and provide regular feedback on children's psychosocial progress.

·       Conduct basic psychosocial screening to identify emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial support needs within the scope of non-specialized MHPSS.

·       Develop and facilitate age-, gender-, and disability-responsive psychosocial activities that promote emotional well-being, resilience, communication, self-esteem, positive coping, and social inclusion.

·       Provide individualized home-based psychosocial support for children with severe and multiple disabilities receiving home education support services, and their caregivers.

·       Collaborate with teachers and education partners to strengthen children's participation, engagement, retention, and inclusion within formal and non-formal education settings.

·       Collaborate with Inclusion Case Workers and partners’ education facilitators to facilitate inclusive recreational, social-emotional learning (SEL), and inclusive social behavior change (SBC) activities for children with and without disabilities in education settings.

·       Strengthen caregivers' knowledge and skills to support children's emotional well-being, development, learning, participation, and positive parenting practices.

·       Identify children or caregivers requiring specialized mental health, protection, or other specialized services and refer them to the Inclusion Case Worker through the established referral pathways.

·       Promote positive attitudes towards disability, diversity, inclusion, child participation, and psychosocial well-being among children, teachers, caregivers, and communities.

·       Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of psychosocial support sessions, attendance, referrals, and monitoring data using approved paper-based or electronic tools.

·       Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, technical supervision sessions, and regular coordination meetings to ensure quality psychosocial support and integrated service delivery.

·       Ensure the application of disability, gender, age, and intersectionality principles throughout all psychosocial support interventions.

·       Ensure strict adherence to HI Security & Safety regulations, safeguarding principles, confidentiality, and data protection protocols in accordance with organizational procedures.


 

 

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

-        Education:

·       Bachelor's degree in psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or another relevant field.

 

-        Professional Experience:

·       Minimum 1–2 years of professional experience implementing psychosocial support programmes, preferably for children and adolescents in humanitarian or early recovery settings.

·       Demonstrated experience facilitating structured individual and group psychosocial support activities, including recreational, play-based, or social-emotional learning interventions.

·       Experience providing psychosocial support to children with disabilities and adapting interventions to different functional, developmental, communication, and learning needs.

·       Experience supporting caregivers through psychoeducation, positive parenting, and caregiver well-being activities.

·       Experience collaborating with teachers, education personnel, rehabilitation professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to promote children's participation and well-being.

·       Experience conducting basic psychosocial screening and maintaining accurate, confidential documentation, referrals, and monitoring data.

·       Experience conducting home visits and delivering home-based psychosocial support is highly desirable.

·       Familiarity with Inclusive Education approaches, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), disability inclusion, and child-centred programming.
 

-        Professional & Personal skills required:

·       Knowledge of Psychological First Aid (PFA), community-based MHPSS approaches, and child safeguarding principles is an asset.

·       Familiarity with humanitarian MHPSS standards and guidance, including the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, the IASC Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action, and the INEE Minimum Standards.

·       Experience working with NGOs in humanitarian or early recovery contexts, preferably in education or child protection programming.

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage children, caregivers, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams.

·       Understanding of referral mechanisms and multidisciplinary coordination processes.

·       Commitment to confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding principles in line with organizational procedures.

·       Basic computer literacy and comfort using office/collaborative tools for documentation and reporting.

·       Able to cope and work in a considerably stressful environment.

·       Good time and task management skills, able to work both independently and in a team.

·       Experience working for an NGO within the humanitarian sector.

-        Basic salary for the position: according to HI salary scale.
