Line Manager: Logistics Officer – Damascus 

Location: Damascus 

Working time: Flexible working time consist of: 

  • Regular tasks related to maintenance of PIN premises and vehicles. Exact routine time to be agreed with line manager.
  • Tasks related to off duty time driving. Based on needs, expected availability is during working days (Sunday – Thursday) from 18.00 pm – 1.00 am. During weekend days (Friday – Saturday) from 14.00 pm – 1.00 am.
  • The total working time will not exceed 40 working hours per week.
  • In exceptional cases, based on availability could be required to work out of the proposed time frame. 

Job Purpose 

The Maintenance support & Night Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of staff and goods during off-duty hours in Damascus, particularly during expat free time. Additionally, the role supports the upkeep and minor repairs of PIN’s office, guesthouses, and Damascus-based vehicles, contributing to the operational efficiency and readiness of the organization. The position plays a key logistical support role, ensuring functional infrastructure, dependable transport, and responsive maintenance services under the direct supervision of the Damascus Logistics Officer 

1. Night Driving in Damascus (Outside Working Hours) 

  • Provide night-time driving support, particularly during expats' free time.
  • Remain reachable after working hours and coordinate with the Logistics Officer or expats based in Damascus.
  • Serve as night driver on a scheduled or ad hoc basis, from 17.00 pm until 1.00 am.
  • Provide safe transport for PIN staff and authorized persons.
  • Support airport pickups/drop-offs, evening meetings, and urgent transport needs.
  • Record all trips in the movement log and report anomalies. 

2. Maintenance – Office & Guesthouses (Damascus) 

  • Perform routine inspections and carry out minor repair works at the PIN Damascus office and guesthouses.
  • Handle basic maintenance tasks including plumbing, lighting, carpentry, and minor electrical repairs, ensuring functionality and safety.
  • Coordinate with external service providers for any maintenance tasks beyond the role’s technical scope, under the supervision of the Logistics Officer.
  • Cooperate with other team members to ensure the cleanliness and operational condition of shared facilities.
  • Monitor stock levels of maintenance tools, materials, and spare parts, and report replenishment needs in a timely manner. 
  • Assist the logistics team in preparing guesthouses for new arrivals, ensuring rooms and facilities are ready and presentable. 

     

3. Maintenance of PIN-Owned Vehicles (Damascus-Based) 

  • Perform weekly inspections of all assigned Damascus-based PIN vehicles, including checks on fuel levels, tire condition, brakes, lights, and overall functionality.
  • Ensure all vehicles are maintained in a clean, well-presented, and roadworthy condition at all times.
  • Immediately report any mechanical issues, damage, or accidents to the Logistics Officer, and assist in coordinating timely repairs.
  • Track and ensure completion of regular servicing in line with the predefined maintenance schedule, in coordination with the logistics team.
  • Maintain up-to-date vehicle documentation, and ensure first aid kits and essential tools are available and complete in each vehicle.
  • Secure vehicles appropriately when not in use, ensuring they are parked in designated safe locations. 

Administrative and Other Tasks 

  • Ensure proper documentation (logbooks, delivery notes, maintenance records).
  • Align leave and availability with logistics plans and expat movement.
  • Transport small equipment, supplies, and documentation between sites.
  • Assist with loading/unloading goods when required.
  • Maintain professionalism and communicate clearly with colleagues. 
  • Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Valid driving license with 10+ years’ experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years working with NGOs (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Damascus and wider Syria road network.
  • Technical knowledge to support basic maintenance tasks. •
  • Spoken English preferred, at least basics required
  • First aid training is an advantage.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed.
  • Candidate must pass a security/criminal record check.
