Duration: 6 Months with possibility for Extension.

 

1. Position Purpose

The PSS Junior Officer is responsible for supporting the effective implementation of structured and unstructured Psychosocial Support (PSS) activities in Temporary Learning Centers (TLCs), schools, and community spaces. This role focuses on ensuring child-friendly approaches, integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), strengthening facilitators’ capacity, and promoting safe, inclusive, and participatory learning environments. The PSS Junior Officer will also support youth clubs, community engagement activities, and coordination with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to enhance child well-being and community ownership of education and protection initiatives.

  • Line manage PSS facilitators and provide continuous guidance, coaching, performance feedback, and evaluation follow-up.
  • Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of weekly structured and unstructured PSS and SEL sessions in TLCs, schools, and community learning spaces.
  • Ensure quality delivery of PSS and SEL activities aligned with program standards, INEE Minimum Standards, and child safeguarding policies.
  • Monitor PSS activities using standardized checklists (safety, inclusivity, participation, child protection, gender sensitivity).
  • Ensure safe, child-friendly, inclusive, and culturally appropriate approaches in PSS delivery, including for children with disabilities.
  • Identify capacity-building needs of PSS facilitators and support their development through coaching, mentoring, and refresher trainings.
  • Strengthen SEL integration in PSS sessions through modeling, structured activities, peer interaction strategies, and emotional support techniques.
  • Coordinate planning and problem-solving with the Education & CP Team Leader, including reporting major incidents, risks, and successes.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between PSS teams, school staff, protection actors, and education Junior officers & Assistants in the field.
  • Collect and verify reports, attendance sheets, feedback forms, pre/post-tests (if applicable), and other required documentation.
  • Support youth club activities, including planning events, training youth mentors, and ensuring adherence to child protection principles.
  • Engage with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and community committees to promote child protection awareness, participation, and education engagement.
  • Follow up on required PSS and SEL materials, submit PRs, and coordinate with logistics for timely distribution and accountability.
  • Document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned and share them with the Team Leader regularly.

3. Child Protection, Safeguarding, and Inclusion Responsibilities

  • Promote safe, non-discriminatory, gender-sensitive, and inclusive learning environments.
  • Ensure immediate reporting of any child protection concerns following PIN protocols.
  • Support awareness sessions for children, caregivers, PTAs, and youth on safety, positive discipline, and well-being.

4. Reporting & Documentation

  • Submit weekly updates, incident reports (if any), and aggregated monthly data to the Education & CP Team Leader.
    • Ensure timely submission of attendance sheets, narratives, and monitoring checklists.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Sciences, or related fields (required).
  • Minimum 1–2 years of Proven experience in PSS, or child protection programs (required).
  • Proven experience delivering structured PSS and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities for children and adolescents in humanitarian or educational settings.
  • Familiarity and hands-on experience with globally recognized SEL/PSS curricula, especially Safe Healing and Learning Spaces (SHLS) and IDEAL/SHE DEAL approaches, including activity planning, facilitation, and monitoring quality of implementation.
  • Knowledge of PSS approaches in humanitarian settings, including structured and recreational activities.
  • Understanding of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and its integration into education programs.
  • Experience in coaching, supervising, or mentoring facilitators or teachers.
  • Basic knowledge of Child Protection (CP), safeguarding, safe referrals, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Ability to use monitoring tools (checklists, reports, attendance sheets, feedback forms).
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with schools, communities, and youth groups.
  • Ability to support community engagement, PTAs, and youth initiatives.
